Pontchartrain. The City was named Nouvelle Orleans (New Orleans) in
honor of Philippe II, Duc d'Orleans, the regent of France under French
King Louis XV.
The city has a population of 484,149 and 1.3 million in the greater
metropolitan area.
It is ethnically diverse with a mix of 62% black, 35% white, 3% Hispanic.
The predominate religion is Roman Catholicism.
